Forbidden Island Launch Party
Friday, June 25, 6:30 pm

Forbidden Island is the new game from co-operative game guru Matt Leacock, designer of  Pandemic.  It's a game that we think will be a big hit, and we hope you'll join us for our Forbidden Island Launch Party later this month.

Forbidden Island is a wonderful family game, full of fun and suspense, and perfect for people who want to work with each other instead of against.  During the launch party we'll teach you how to play the game, and then you and your fellow adventurers will continue the game on your own.  With careful planning and a bit of luck, you and your teammates should be able to capture the treasures and escape the dreaded island before it sinks into the sea.  Are you up to the challenge??

But that's not all - Gamewright has generously provided us with a copy of the game that's been autographed by Matt Leacock.  We'll be raffling it off during the event, and one lucky player will take it home!

Speedcubers to Descend on Wicker Park in July
Saturday, July 17, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

No, a speedcuber is not something dreadful that drops from the sky!  Speedcubing means solving the Rubik's Cube as fast as you can, and on July 17th, cubing enthusiasts from throughout the Midwest will gather at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library to take part in our Rubik's Cube Competition.

We'll have competitions for all cube sizes (the original cube is 3X3X3, but they also come in 2X2, 4X4, 5X5, 6X6 and 7X7) as well as 3X3X3 one-handed and 3X3X3 blindfolded events!  Visit our web site for complete details about the competition and registration.

Can you solve a Rubik's cube but don't feel that you're fast enough to compete? Compete anyway!  Lots of people participate just to get an official time, and then work to beat their own time.

Or are you like me, a complete flop who can't even come close to solving a cube?  Don't fret, anyone who likes puzzles can still have fun at our event.  It's fascinating to watch speedcubers compete (all of the competitors are impressive we think, but blindfolded?!?) and we'll also have tons of demo puzzles and brainteasers out on tables for people to enjoy playing with.  We'll also be giving away door prizes all day long.

It's an event you won't want to miss!

D&D Encounters Season 2 Begins Next Week!
Weekly starting Wednesday, 6/9, 7 pm

D&D Encounters Season 1 was a big hit, with 2-3 tables of players showing up for some dungeon-crawling fun every week.  Season 2 begins this Wednesday 6/9 at 7pm.

The new Encounters campaign takes place in the upcoming Dark Sun setting. Adventure in the deserts of Athas where just surviving the unrelenting heat, vicious monsters, and others trying to scavenge out an existence in a brutal world decimated by reckless magic is hard enough. All characters are pre-generated so all you have to do is show up and play.  Playing D&D has never been easier!

Now, some customers have asked us what type of people attend D&D Encounters at Cat & Mouse, usually with a leery look indicating that they're afraid they might end up being the only adult in the room.  Not to worry!  The players from Season 1 were all very nice adults in their mid-20's to early 40's.  And Encounters is tailor-made for people who have busy lives, since each session only lasts about 1 1/2 hours and it's easy to miss a week if you need to.  If you're at all curious about D&D, come out on a Wednesday night and join the fun!

... And Don't Forget D&D for Kids
1st and 3rd Saturday, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

For our junior geeks we have D&D Encounters for Kids on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month.  Our next session is this Saturday 6/5,from 11 am until 12:30 pm.

Right now we have 4 very cute and enthusiastic boys who are playing, including our son Cyrus.  Last week Cyrus' character got injured and he ended up rolling around on the floor in mock agony - it was very dramatic!  I think he was healed before the end of the session, though, and hopefully things will go better for him this week.

If you have a young adventurer on your hands who would like to play, there's room at the table for 2 more!
