Calling All Farmers - Join us in April for our Agricola Tournament!

Throughout the first half of April we'll be hosting an Agricola tournament, but this one will work a little differently than our previous tournaments.  Because Agricola is a longer game, starting on April 5th we'll host qualifying rounds, then gather the top 8 players for the final tournament on Saturday, April 18th.  Players will compete not just for glory, but also for Cat & Mouse Gift Certificates and Animeeples donated by Mayday Games.  May the best farmer win!

Dominion Tournament Results

On Saturday March 21st we held our second Euro game tournament, and this time 16 players competed against each other in Dominion, the popular card game from Rio Grande.   In Dominion, different combinations of decks can be used to vary the difficulty and intensity of the game.  Scott Tepper from Boardgamenews.com designed four different combinations for us to use during the tournament; he lulled the players into a sense of security in the first game then ramped up the challenge with subsequent games.  The competition was fierce with some really close scores, but in the end Michael (1st), Greg (2nd), Melanie and Dave (tied for 3rd) prevailed!

Recent News & Reviews

  • The Chicago Tribune recently featured Cat & Mouse in an article, and the author's ramblings have left many people we know scratching their heads.  For something completely different (i.e. insightful and well-written) we recommend the article that appeared in WIRED about Klaus Teuber and his iconic game Settlers of Catan.  Whether you're already a boardgame aficionado, new to the hobby, or just curious about all these new-fangled strategy games, it's a great read.
  • Bruno Faidutti, designer of some of our favorite games like Citadels and Incan Gold, has recently reviewed SmallWorld and added it to his ideal game library.  SmallWorld is the next large box game from Days of Wonder, and we're expecting it to arrive in the store in April or May.  If you like fun, fantasy-themed games, you'll definitely want to check it out.  SmallWorld is also highlighted by the Viennese Games Academy, which posts brief video overviews of notable games that were introduced at the 2009 Nuremberg Toy Fair.  Even though some of those games will never make it to the U.S. market (the Lego board games, for instance) it's fun to get a peek at what's new in Europe.
